The Ikeda Clan (池田氏 Ikeda-shi) was a clan of feudal Japan in Owari Province (and specifically in the domains of Tottori and Okayama) that claimed to be descended from Minamoto no Yorimitsu.
It was his great-grandson Yasumasa who first took the name Ikeda. However, the origins of the clan have given rise to much debate because according to some sources they are descended from the Kusunoki clan.
In the 15th century, during the Sengoku period, the Ikeda prospered by being servants of the Three Unificationists. Ikeda Tsunetoshi entered the service of Oda Nobuhide and his son Nobuteru became one of the most loyal generals of the Oda and a personal friend of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
Nobuteru was killed in the battle of Komaki and Nagakute but his son Terumasa sided with Tokugawa Ieyasu in the battle of Sekigahara and later became one of the richest daimyō in all of Japan as he was assigned the dominion of Tottori.
The Ikeda remained a wealthy clan even during the Edo period.
